Garden Vale Stud was established by Del and Harry Brittain in 1975, when Harry bought Del a Buckskin mare “The Pines Colleen” for Del to show, but he showed this mare himself, and together this partnership won Champion Buckskin mare awards throughout the 1970’s. She was then an important brood mare in Garden Vale history. They began breeding and showing Buckskins and Palominos and managed to win numerous Champion Stallion, Gelding and Mare awards with their prized horses. Tragically Dels Champion Gelding “Garden Vale Sergeant” was poisoned and he was tragically put to sleep. This Gelding won so many Champion awards around Queensland shows in the 1970’s.
Garden Vale Stud moved to Cedarvale 30 years ago and stood 2 stallions. Buckskin - “Garden Vale Starbuck” and a Palomino – “Glenhuntly Beau Jangles”. These stallions were successfully shown in the 1980’s.
Garden Vale Stud gave up breeding for many years, and Sue and Wendy showed their hacks and galloways for many years.
The breeding flame was reignited when Sue and her husband Paul decided to breed Riding Ponies. They were sick of buying problem horses, and decided to breed their own horses, that would hopefully have great temperaments like the mares they owned. In partnership with Smithfields stud, we began to successfully breed over height Riding Ponies. Using our thoroughbred mares to the riding Pony stallions, we have produced many stunning horses in the past 10 years. These horses are successfully shown throughout the country.
Wendy and Del began breeding Thoroughbreds with Brian Manski and now stand “Diamond Fuelled” (Riding Pony approved) 16.2hh black stallion with white socks and a star.- He was the first son of “Clang” to stand at stud in Qld. Please see stallion page for more information about this wonderful stallion. The thoroughbreds have been sold as far away as New Zealand!!
Just recently Garden Vale stud turned to Quarter Horses, with a bit of help from Paul After many years of being the studs strapper and photographer, Paul decided he wanted to join in the fun of showing with his own horse. He wanted a quarter horse and the hunt began for a Buckskin one, Pauls dream began when we managed to find “Heart of Diamonds” for him. .
Garden Vale Stud operates the Thoroughbred stud at Cedarvale, and the Riding Pony stud at Veresdale.
2009 sees Garden Vale Stud have a show team of 6 horses.
